Community Coaching Programme

8 newly qualified coaches graduated on Tuesday last from Meath Local Sports Partnership`s Community Coaching award 2018/2019. The Community Coaching award is a 14 week programme, funded by Meath LSP through Sports Ireland`s Dormant Accounts measure.

The aim of the programme is to equip participants with the necessary skills which will allow them to deliver coach education within local communities.

The graduates completed modules in the following disciplines:

Sport Ireland Coaching Children Modules 1 – 4; Sport Ireland Active Leadership Award: Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 & 2; CARA Disability Awareness Training; Hockey stepping stones 1 & 2; Athletics Leader Award; Volleyball – Introductory level; Basketball – introductory level; Ladies Gaelic – Fundamentals Award; Irish Heart Foundation Walk Leader Training; LMETB QQI Level 3 in Personal Development; FAI awards in PDP 1, Futsal Introduction & Integration workshop; Manual Handling; Occupational First Aid; Nutrition – Fuel for the body & Event Management.

All of the graduates will assist Meath LSP in delivering projects county wide over the coming months.

Cllr Sharon Tolan (Chairwoman of Meath LSP) congratulated all the graduates on completing the 14 week programme and wished them well in their respective future roles with Meath LSP and wider community.

Sharon also paid particular tribute to Thomas Winters who is the first Powerchair Graduate of the Community Coaching programme, saying “that Thomas was not only an inspiration to everyone who took part in the programme, but to the wider sports disability network”. Thomas has agreed to act as an Ambassador for Meath LSP`s Sports Disability programme.

Thomas has recently been selected on the Irish Powerchair football team which will represent Ireland at the upcoming Nations Cup in Finland in May 2019.
