Primary Schools Olympic Handball  

 In September 2023, Meath LSP and Irish Olympic Handball Association (IOHA) collaborated to establish a new handball league for schools in Meath.

Over 450 primary school students took part in the first-round competitions where the winners progressed to the county finals in Gormanston Sports Park in February and then qualified for Leinster finals.  All provincial winners took part in the All Ireland Olympic Handball Schools finals in Limerick on 24th April with three Meath schools crowned WINNERS taking GOLD!!!

Congratulations to the winning teams who brought GOLD back to the Royal County …

  • U11 Boys: St. Colmcilles Kells
  • U13 Girls:  St. Pauls, Ratoath
  • U13 Boys: Yellow Furze

Suitable for: U11 & U13

Available to: All Primary Schools in Meath

Cost: €30 – €50 per school (depending on number of teams entered)

Primary Schools Olympic Handball  

 Olympic Handball has gained huge popularity in recent years.  Meath LSP & Irish Olympic Handball Association (IOHA) are continuing to work together to increase the opportunity for more children to experience the sport in primary schools.

In 2023 we introduced a new Meath Handball Schools League for primary schools and together we are working to increase participation rates in the sport of Olympic Handball and increase opportunities for children to experience new activities.

This programme is available to all primary and secondary schools in Meath who would like to incorporate Olympic Handball as part of their school sports curriculum.

Primary schools who register for the programme will receive:

  • Entry to the Meath Handball League
  • Entry to Provential and National League competitions
  • Free Teacher Training & Schools training resources 
  • School affiliation to Irish Olympic Handball Association

The 2024 Primary Schools Olympic Handball League will kick off in September, registration details will be available then.

Story so far …..

In September 2023 Meath LSP and Irish Olympic Handball Association (IOHA) collaborated to establish a new handball league for schools in Meath. This is the first time Meath primary and secondary school can take part in local competitions and progress to the IOHA provincial and national finals. In December over 450 primary school students took part in the first-round competitions where the winners progress to the county final. Thanks to Bohermeen Community Centre and Wilkinstown Community Centre for the use of their facilities.

The county finals for both primary and secondary schools take place in Gormanston Sports Park on the following dates:

  • Primary Schools Final – Friday 9th February
  • Secondary Schools Final – Thursday 22nd February
