Now running for 14 years Mature Movers is a massive part of community life for older people in Meath. The programme is rolled out in 14 areas across the county with approx. 300 older people taking part.
In 2008 we started with 15 participants, the initiative has steadily grown and by 2011 we had 45 participants enjoying the programme in Navan, following the success in Navan we expanded to the Trim area where had 35 participants. Mature Movers began back in 2008 in Navan Pitch and Putt Club. The programme was set up to get older adults more physically active. The programme runs for 6 weeks and includes activities such as movement for life, resistance training, core stability, balance, seated Pilates and bowls.
This 4-week activity plan will support people to try and reach the minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical activity, as recommended in Ireland’s National Physical Activity Plan. Daily participation in the 4-week programme will help maintain & increase the participant’s mobility, strength and balance.
