To celebrate Sport Ireland Women in Sport week, we spoke to Dawn Weldon who participated on our 0-3k, 3-5k & 5k+ Podcast Running Series!
“I started the 0-3k programme in 2020, at the time I was working, had a family and suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and always used this as an excuse not to exercise.
This programme started off with walking and slowly progressed to jogging. Each week varied and I really noticed my progress as time went on. As well as meeting new people I was enjoying what I was doing but most importantly, keeping fit.
When COVID-19 struck and we were unable to meet up, Meath LSP transferred the programme to a podcast which was easy to set up and follow. This was a lifesaver during lockdown, encouraging me to complete 3 sessions every week.
A Facebook group was started for all the members, it was great fun to link with others online and share our experiences.
Last week I ran my first ever 10k, I never in wildest dream thought, I could ever achieve that. It wasn’t easy but nothing worth doing is easy. I am fitter, healthier and happier than I have ever been. If I can do it, so can YOU!!”
