Older Adult Home Exercise Plan

Meath Local Sports Partnership is one of 29 Local Sports Partnerships nationwide who have come together to roll-out a 4-week physical activity plan for older adults as part of Positive Aging Week. The activity plan has been developed by Sport Ireland, representatives of the nationwide LSP network in conjunction with Age & Opportunity (national development organisation improving the quality of life of people aged 50+).

This 4-week activity plan will support people to try and reach the minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical activity, as recommended in Ireland’s National Physical Activity Plan. Daily participation in the 4-week programme will help maintain & increase the participant`s mobility, strength and balance.

As we age, it is essential that we stay strong by doing regular strengthening exercises. Regular physically activity also promotes mental and emotional health – never has this been more important than now as we adjust to the Covid-19 restrictions being placed upon us.

By building these exercises in to your daily routine and tracking your progress over the few weeks, you will notice a huge improvement in your physical and mental well- being.”

Mary Murphy, Manager of Meath LSP welcomed the physical activity plan, adding “that it was an excellent resource which further compliments the extensive programme Meath LSP already offers to the older active adult”.

This resource is fully adaptive for people of all abilities and ages and includes an activity planner to help keep track of your progress throughout the 4-weeks.
