The Royal County 5km & 10km, Kells on Monday 1st May 2017

The Royal County will take place in Kells on Monday 1st May 2017. There are 2 routes – 5km & 10km, both starting and finishing on Cannon Street in Kells. There will be over 300 runners, joggers and walkers of varying ages and abilities taking part.

Please note that there will be some disruptions during the morning along the route. The roads will not be closed. All those participating have been instructed to obey the rules of the road and to show due respect to all other road users.

Both routes start and finish on Cannon Street in Kells (beside the Round Tower). The 2 routes follow the same route out to the Carlanstown Road roundabout and from there take 2 different directions back to Kells.

The 10k route is travelling along your road. Please expect a large volume of participants along your road from 10.30am – 12 noon on Monday 1std May:

  • From L 28044(junction with N52) at Normanstown – to Dulane Cross crossing intersection on Moynalty/Kingscourt Rd (R164) – right to Glan Rd & rejoining R164 at Whistlemount

If you are using the road, please be aware of the possibility of meeting large groups of participants. Indeed, it would be great if you could avoid these roads at the times provided above.

Participants will be travelling in large groups, where necessary Gardai and marshals on junctions may request that traffic stop to allow these large groups pass.  Please cooperate, as roads are narrow!

If you have dogs, we would appreciate if you kept them safe and off the road for those times. We have marked all identifiable road hazards and filled potholes but if you are aware of anything which may cause a hazard to participants along the route that you can move, please do so.

We do appreciate that this may cause you some inconvenience. However support for the participants along the route would be most welcome, alternatively you could always take part – what better way to spend the bank holiday Monday than by taking part in a local event with friends/family members! See for further details or come along to the Headfort Arms on Monday morning and register to take part.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact our offices at 046 9067337.
