National Play Day

Meath Local Sports Partnership is delighted to announce National Play Day 2022 will take place on a day or combination of days from the 2nd – 9th of July.

The aim of National Play Day is to promote play (and recreation) opportunities for children and young people all across the countryThrough this initiative, Meath Local Sports Partnership is managing applications on behalf of Meath County Council.  Pre-schools, Montessori, creches, and other early years education providers and groups working with children and young people are encouraged to apply for this scheme to avail of an equipment play pack and staff training day.

Play packs will comprise of a variety of items including skipping ropes, bean bags, hula hoops, foam balls of different sizes and shapes, rackets & balls, cones, space markers & bibs.  The equipment varies in size, color, and texture and is suitable for inclusive games for children with additional needs.

A training day will be held in one central location. Participating centers & child care providers will be invited to attend and take part in a 2-3 hour training session taking them through the equipment and games that can be delivered to children of a variety of age groups. The training element is key as it brings sustainability to the initiative whereby games can continue to be delivered year-round and build on what was delivered during National Play Day. These games will be inclusive and will improve children’s fundamental movement and physical literacy skills which are key to children’s development and lifelong involvement in sport & physical activity.

The National Play Day is just one component of the wider Summer of Play campaign; a government-led initiative designed to remind everyone, young and old, of the fundamental importance of play. This year’s theme is “All play together”.

Closing date for applications: Friday 24th June @ 4pm.
